phpMyAdmin as a Flash RIA

I stumbled across this link last night that I thought would be of interest to a lot of you. Instead of using phpMyAdmin to manage a MySQL database, now you can use a Flash RIA instead.

As I played with the demo a bit, I noticed that It seems to be pretty feature complete. You can check it out at Darren's $5 Script Archive. Sure it's not free, but since it's priced at $5 it shouldn't be out of reach, especially if it's something that you can really use.

Check out the live demo on the link above. I was wondering why someone hadn't made something like this sooner...

So who's gonna build something like this in Flex? :-)

  • That's a nice tool to use, I like the table relationships part.

  • Really cool - thanks for the hint!

  • Very nice indeed, and a good idea for a Flex application too. I don't like using phpMyAdmin... too many steps to do stuff, so I feel more confortable using the command line. But having that functionality in a RIA it's a great idea.

  • Seriously impressed. I think am obliged to fork over the $5 - what a bargain for what pomises to be a handy tool.

Like Oscar I tend towards command line (probably just me being an old fart) but this I like - especially the graphical relationship builder.
    Thanks for the heads up.

  • It is not usable because its lack of speed. Flash is not the tool for such apps, specially when using the Macromedia sample components.

After debugging and and making the tool user fault sensitiver, it would be even slower.

  • In truth, I think thats a fantastic tool. Performance wise, I would agree to a degree with Festus, it would tend to be slow as a result of components. But then again, my opinion is it could be overcome by dumping some of the components.

Making it fault sensitive is a programming issue, and all in the way things are managed and developed.

Definitely worth the $5 in my book, especially if development continued to get closer to the features in phpMyAdmin.

  • This would be a nice Central app actually. If you are already using the FCS admin app, which is really nice, then it would make sense, just to have another admin tool in the same environment.

  • yeah alas this is just way to slow to use it on a daily basis. performance needs to be better!

  • You're right Oscar, but as a Flex app it would cost $12,005 :)

  • This relationship tool is LONG overdue. No more length "alter table..." SQL queries to establish table relationships. For one, I am very relieved that someone finally thought to make a visual relationship builder. Great job!

  • That app kicks some ass. Waychago!!!
