From Flash to Flex presentation files

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

I've put the slides and example files from my presentation this past Tuesday available for download here.

The session went pretty well I think, and gave a lot of people a chance to see how Flex can be useful to them as Flash users. I had people approach me afterwards and say they had heard of Flex but didn't really know what it was or how it was applicable until after my presentation. I showed how to set up Eclipse and use Flex as a client-side compiler, and using Flex in this way was a big hit.

Keep in mind that all of the examples in the download were accompanied by an explanation and don't really say much just by themselves. Rob had video-recorded my session so hopefully that will make its way online at some point. Also, for those of you who already have Flex experience, the examples probably won't help you at all as they were meant to give an introduction to Flex from a Flash user's perspective. Feel free to check them out anyway...

If you have any questions, look at the FlexCoders group, or feel free to email me personally and I'll try to get back to you in a reasonable timeframe. I get a lot of email so I can't promise you'll get an answer, but I do my best...

Good luck!

  • hi darron,

i try to download your zipfile twice and winzip and winrar respond that the file is corrupted.
are you sure the file is correct ?

thanks for your explanation on how to configure eclipse for flex, associated with FAMES for flash we can tell that it's a good solution before Zorn.

    Thanks.

  • Sorry about that! It looks like the .zip got corrupted somehow. It's somewhat of a large download (21 meg), so make sure you get it all. I just uploaded a new version this morning that should be OK.

  • Hey Darron,

Here's another link for your list:
    http://www.macromedia.com/newsletters/edge/february2005/index.html?sectionIndex=5&trackingid=AWQZ

It was originally titled "From Flash to Flex in a flash!" but they changed the title to "Tips for using Flash assets in Flex applications" at the last moment before going to print. Of course the article has nothing to do with the title (it's about porting an application from Flash to Flex.)

I don't know why Macromedia wants to keep it quiet that it is actually easy to go from Flash to Flex but it really is (especially if you architect your apps nicely.)

Anyway, happy to see you spreading the word! :)
